Taxonomy not selected

If you edit the permalink to be something like -
/%post_type%/%taxonomy_name%/%post_name%/

So when you add a post, and not select a term for the post, the URL is as follows -
/%post_type%//%post_name%/

Notice the double slashes? Even if the one slash is removed, the URL still doesn't work.
