Performance tests

• Rafiki Beta release will be postponed until we implement performance indicators.
• This approach ensures subsequent releases can demonstrate measurable improvements.
• Sabine and Max have created a performance story.
• TPS measurement is complex due to dependency on the Account Servicing Entity (ASE) performance.
• One metric we can fully control is the movement of packets between outgoing payments in the funded state and the receipt of funds in the incoming payment.
• Should tests be conducted within a single Rafiki instance or between instances?
• Jason noted we should have different metrics for network latency vs internal processing time. He has had similar experiences with Mojaloop so will contribute to this story.
• Integrators need to understand the added value and cost implications of using Rafiki over current payment systems.
• The idea is to establish a standard performance measure within our Continuous Integration (CI) process to track performance. This way the environment is standardized and consistent.
• Initially the proposal was to test on each Pull Request but cost concerns were raised. Performance tests are expensive, especially when running in the cloud. Tests should be run on releases rather than PRs since they work best on significant transaction data. It’s okay to run performance tests every two weeks with the release cycle.
• It is also a good idea to set timeouts to ensure that if some changes break the performance we limit our computation costs for running lengthy performance tests.

Evaluate the need to continue supporting both TigerBeetle and PostGres databases.

Planning a blog post that discusses the move from Rafiki Alpha to Rafiki Beta and what makes us ready now to do a Beta release.
