Wildcard search

I got a question if wildcards are supported for part search. I think traditional wildcards are not but there is a User setting to enable regular expressions in search queries that I beleive should serve the same purpose.

I'm not very familiar with Regex so I might do someting wrong as I can't get it working. Before digging deeper into why I just want to ask if enabling the setting means that a Regex could be entered directly into the serach boxes? Or do I misunderstand the purpose of the setting?

The regex search option only applies to the global search currently, not within the table searches
