Plugins for the global search?

It would be great if custom barcodes could be read to the global search and the search method could be altered by a plugin.

I have two use cases:

Our products has a barcode on the sticker which includes the partnumber (sometimes OEM, sometimes something matching our IPN) the serial number and some other stuff (revision etc.).
In this case the item (matching the OEM or IPN) and the stock item with the serial shall be shown in the results.

The bags from the TME has a QR code which includes the partnumber (supplier PN in InvenTree) and the PO number.
When scanning these barcodes to the global search with some regexp matching the Supplier part and the Purchase order (if found) should be shown in the results.

It would be great if these type of plugins could be created and if enabled they would be listed here:
