What is Part Column Supposed to be?

I am having difficulty understanding information input. I have been able to muddle through entering five lines of parts. The part information for one of the parts is: 1072-04 | HDWE | -
1072-04 -
SCREW,4-40X1/4,PHP,SS
EA
-
The Part column has "1072-04 | HDWE | -", which to my way of thinking should just be "HDWE" (Hardware--is in the Category column). The Subcategory would be "SCREW" and I can not get that into the detail screen. And I am not able to enter the information for Default Location. How to make these edits and where to input the information?

Reading on in the online documentation it looks like the Part column is supposed to be a unique name. Okay I can work with that. The problem is the program prepends the name I have assigned with the IPN. I don't want that! Just should show the name I have assigned. How do I eliminate the prepended IPN being attached?
