Error with npx cap run android #5530

I'm new to capacitor and trying to get a simple project running and followed all of the prerequisite steps. I installed as following:

npm init @capacitor/app
npx cap sync
npm add @capacitor/android
npx cap add android

When I run

npx cap run android

I get the following error:

If use npx cap open android and go that route, it works fine but I'm hoping to get run working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Node installed with home brew does not work, Use nodenv instead

brew uninstall node
brew install nodenv 
echo 'export PATH=${PATH}:~/.nodenv/shims' >> ~/.zprofile 
nodenv install 17.7.2
nodenv global 17.7.2
npx cap run android

Can you run this and provide the console output?

cd android
./gradlew assembleDebug

That’s weird, I was hopping it would fail with a better error as that’s the command that failed on npx cap run

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem.
With the same command (./gradlew assembleDebug) apparently there is success.

In my case, I can use liveReload mode on iOS. I can generate the production version for android, however, when I try to use livereload on android gives the same error. (✖ Running Gradle build - failed!
[error] ERR_SUBPROCESS_COMMAND_NOT_FOUND)

I’ve basically tried everything, including deleting the settings, Node, Ionic, but the error persists.

The error apparently appeared without having made any changes to the system. And I also have apple’s M1 CPU.

It looks like Node.js is broken, try to install Node LTS (v16)

I was using node 17 which wasn’t working but switched to 16 using nodenv and that worked

@ambidexterich I tired v17.8.0 with home brew and then uninstall and installed v16.14.2 and I still get the same issue.
However, v16.14.2 AND v17.7.2 work if you install using nodenv so you can go back to 17.
The key was using nodenv to install node

I verified that this is a fix. I would expect it to work with the homebrew versions so that is a different issue but this is enough since I already use nodenv

Just FYI, it has been fixed in node distributed through homebrew

Just run

brew update && brew upgrade libuv

Another possible issue, causing this error
Using Ubuntu, and same repo is used by windows too, so there was a conflict between LF and CRLF

Recently i converted files from LF to CRLF as it was showing extra file changes in git,
so, executing gradlew was throwing this error

bash: ./gradlew: /bin/sh^M: bad interpreter: No such file or directory
then i converted it back to LF with,

sed -i -e 's/\r$//' android/gradlew
