Hello, this is not a bug report but rather a request for guidance.
I have this console model with an Infinity 1.99 chip and PS2BBL set as BOOT.ELF in mc0:/BOOT/.

I would like to disable the modchip by lifting the VCC power point, in case I need to use it again in the future, and leave the console running without the modchip.
I understand that the SCPH-90001 model is not compatible, but it is mentioned that updates can still be performed. I would like to know exactly what that means.

Is it possible to make PS2BBL boot as a KELF without the modchip?
Is there any hardware hack required to force compatibility and ensure success, such as lifting a pin or adding a jumper?

Hi, unfortunately no. Because Sony removed the system update vulnerability from the boot ROM (BIOS) itself, not a hardware limitation, but rather, removed software

You need an exploit based on opentuna for your 90k slim

Thank you for the clarification, I still had some hope of being able to uninstall the modchip with this tool.
Currently, I have PS2BBL+opentuna installed, but I still require the modchip to boot in DEV1.
Perhaps I should get a 7xxxx series unit for spare parts and replace the BIOS chip of the 90001 with that of the 7xxxx, in order to boot in DEV1 without needing the modchip.

Or even better, get a fully functional 7xxxx series console and be able to use KELFBinder successfully.
