Need Guide or Documentation to Upgrade Properly Base on Release on Github

Scenario Example:

1. I have Release 5.8.1, which I’ve been using with multiple games in my Steam library. The games are stored in the CXPBottles folder located at:
   Macintosh HD/Users/MyName/CXPBottles.
2. I downloaded CXPatchers.app.zip from the GitHub release:
   [V0.5.20 for CX 24.0.7](https://github.com/italomandara/CXPatcher/releases/tag/v0.5.20).
3. After extracting the downloaded file, I moved/replaced it in the Applications folder, overwriting my existing CX Patcher installation.

Would this be the correct approach, or do you have any suggestions? I want to avoid a fresh install, especially for essential utilities like Microsoft Visual C++ (VCC), since I’ve already batch-installed them using install_all.bat.

I forgot how to update it since it has been a few months. Should I install the new CrossOver, or can I just use the new CX Patcher?

also i always run steam apps with -noverifyfiles -nobootstrapupdate -skipinitialbootstrap -norepairfiles -overridepackageurl to prevent error steam . but if open a game directly without open crossover first its fine nothing error . here is the issue https://github.com/Whisky-App/Whisky/issues/1199 0x3008

The way you're Installing CXPatcher on your mac is ok.
I just have one note: many people make the same "mistake" by installing their games in the bottle instead of an external HD or a folder in your mac HD, but outside the bottle.

Installing inside the bottle is bad and here's why:

• When you patch crossover it will change the bottle path by default and if it's the first time you'll have to create a new bottle and re-install your games.
• Even if you disable the option "Use separate bottle path" the bottle might get messed up after patch and then you'll have to create a fresh bottle anyway.
• Even when you re-use the same bottle after you patched several times, overtime the bottle will stop working properly and then you'll have to create a new bottle anyway.

...so the best practice is to configure Steam, EA, or whatever Game store you use to link to a path in an external drive or a normal folder in your mac drive and not the bottle.

My personal advice is, if you have a spare PC where you also play videogames you might want to use an external HD for Steam/EA/Other...

Well you can install the new version of crossover and also patch it to have the latest dxmt and Gstreamer.

This seems like a bug not related to the patcher and more likely happening on unpatched crossover too, I'll see if there's a fix but i recommend buying crossover 25 that doesn't seem to have that issue
