minimal todo-list management

What's a likely shortest path to the following minimal task management facilities: adding to IWE, or using a third-party plugin that dovetails nicely (anyone aware if one such exists already), or something else?

1. Would like to have more than binary task status -- looks like anything besides space and x are assumed to be IWE links:

Hi @sjwo, thanks for starting this discussion.

I think we can add a set of basic task management commands to IWE. Such as:

• Convert bullet list to todo list
• Check all boxes
• Uncheck all boxes

As well as some way of tasks discoverability, like searching for tasks.

But I don't think we will go for custom syntax like [I] cause it's not a standard or common markdown extension.

@gimalay thank you! That makes sense about avoiding arbitrary custom syntax. I am recalling [x]it!, which seems reasonably well specified, but I don't think it is very widely adopted and would be a lot more implementation work anyway. Also I can totally understand if its feature set seems out of scope or low-priority for IWE either right now or in general.

I would probably use a command to toggle binary un/done status of a single task more often than I would use a command to un/check all boxes in a list. I usually finish tasks one at a time, and it would be ergonomic to avoid having to move the cursor from elsewhere on the line into the box [ ] before using rx to mark done.

(Unsure if a command to convert a single bullet item into a task might also be helpful?)
