Normal notifications for alerts

The current notification system is annoying. Can you enable an option to use normal android notifications?

Why I want them?

• I simply want my phone to play a discrete sound and vibrate, like in any other Android app.
• I don't want to annoy everyone around me when my glucose is high.
• The notification sound I want lasts ~300ms, and I can't set decimals on the duration field. So it plays 3 times...
• Currently there's no way to stop the annoying alert sound other than opening the application. If I forget my phone and starts making noise everyone will be pissed off because they cannot turn it off.
• There are situations I prefer to be high, but the notification keeps yelling at me as if I was going to die. I don't want to snooze the alarm, I want it to keep reminding me I'm high without being irritating.

I agree that the current alarms system is terrible, it stops any media that are playing, which means I'm either messing with my phone while trying to drive, I have to put up with no music, or I need to just turn off the alarms entirely.

I have opted to just go entirely without alarms which makes this app worse than the librelink app and is dangerous for my health but won't kill me as quickly as a car accident will. I need this app to feed data to AndroidAPS but it is honestly a liability and needs to be fixed asap.

Juggluco pauses sound that is playing, so that the alarm is heard, but resumes that sound after the alarm is finished.
You think that that is terrible?

The alarms are absolutely one of the worst things about this app - we use the app for my young daughter, consistent alarms going off in class or overnight mean she ends up setting an arbitrarily high level so ends up being pointless.

A snooze function would be good to avoid the consistent alarms when bouncing around the set level. Mute from the lock screen would make it almost perfect as well.

@mauriciabad @steviator - I have dev experience, would be happy to work with you on a forked version to improve this and then show @j-kaltes the benefits to hopefully merge back in ?

👉 The bad part is how to stop the alarm.

Notice that the stock android alarm shows a screen with a huge and easy to press stop/snooze button, this is the right way to do it. I don't remember how Juggluco worked, because I disabled the alarms, but I think it forced you to open the app and press stop, making it super inconvenient (especially since the app only works in landscape and you have to rotate the phone XD).

Moreover, this doesn't need to be an alarm that doesn't stop until I manual stop it. It could be a simple notification that plays a discrete sound, and doesn't force you to unlock the phone and do stuff in it.

Alarm are easy to stop:

• You can limit the alarm to a few seconds under ringtone: https://www.juggluco.nl/Jugglucohelp/ringtone.html
  It also stops when:
• Touch the notificati0on of Juggluco;
• Touch the app itself;
• If you are displaying a floating glucose, you can touch the floating glucose;
• If the screen is locked you can press the "Off" button while in locked state.

If you tell this nonsense, it can only mean that you haven't looked in the app and only tried to do what you did by some other app.

I’m being constructive here. I’m not trying to argue, just reporting a usability issue I ran into and suggesting improvements.

Several users have complained about the alarm system, and we’re explaining why it doesn’t work well in practice.

The current implementation behaves differently from standard Android notifications, which causes friction and unexpected behavior. It feels like a workaround when the platform already provides a solid solution.

I just want the app to improve, that only works if criticism isn’t taken as an attack. I’d like to focus on whether an option to use standard Android notifications for alarms could be added.

I think it could be a separate feature, maybe called "Glucose warning notifications", and leave alarms as they are.
