Cannot double click open assets

In a freshly created gradle game project I cannot open anything in the assets folder by double clicking on it. I have to go through RMB -> Open to get a file to open. Happens both in "Projects" tab with gradle projects as well as the "Files" tab that was supposed to work on files directly. Restarting the sdk doesn't seem to help. I didn't try reinstalling as the install is completely fresh.

You say "freshly created". Does it work if it's not fresh? Reason for asking is it's working my not fresh gradle project, at least for .j3o and textures. j3m doesn't seem to work. Seems to be same for Projects and Files tab.
Are any asset types working?

Unfortunately I don't have any non-ancient jme projects at hand that I could test with. None of the file types I tried worked (j3md, j3m, j3o, frag, vert, png).

Seems to occur rather randomly. Most of the time nothing works. The first time I opened the SDK today, vert and frag files worked fine, other file types still didn't work. After a restart, now some of the j3o-s work (the ones that were converted from gltf), but the j3o-s that I've made manually from scratch still don't seem to open on double click.

I'll continue to report if I manage to find any patterns in what works and what doesn't.
