Installation - What am I doing wrong?

Attempting to install on current Debian. I have a PW3 (Powerwall Companion on W11 does talk to it).

Docker is installed and "hello world" works.

I am running as a non-root user.

setup.sh keeps throwing various errors like:

sed: couldn't open temporary file : Permission denied ;I get 14 of these
./tz/sh: line 36: tz: Permission denied

After a couple hours of effort, would someone tell me what I've missed, please? It has to be simple.

Hi @ChuckBland thanks for opening this, sorry to hear about the setup troubles.

./tz/sh: line 36: tz: Permission denied

This means that your user doesn't have permission to modify (write) things in current directory. That line is basically doing this:

echo "America/Los_Angeles" > tz

I don't now why your user wouldn't have access to write to files in the current directory. Is it possible you did a sudo git pull ... (used sudo) basically having root write the files? In any case, using ls -la should show the files, owner and permissions to help figure out what happened.

I would bet this means I missed some instructions. Which web page is this in so I can check how much I missed? I had several pages open, so there is no telling what I skipped.

If you can run ls -l and paste the results, we can see if there are file permission issues.

Ah yes, it looks like you either were running as root or ran sudo get clone ... at the beginning.

I recommend you delete the Powerwall-Dashboard directory and start over, but this time run all the commands as joshua. Something like:

cd ~
sudo rm -fr Powerwall-Dashboard
git clone https://github.com/jasonacox/Powerwall-Dashboard.git
cd Powerwall-Dashboard
./setup.sh

That's very odd. For most system, the git clone will store the data as your current user.

You can try forcing it to change it to your ownership:

cd ~
# Remove the old one
sudo rm -fr Powerwall-Dashboard

# Clone the project
git clone https://github.com/jasonacox/Powerwall-Dashboard.git

# Change ownership
sudo chown -R joshua Powerwall-Dashboard

# Run setup
cd Powerwall-Dashboard
./setup.sh

We got out of sync in our rep[lies.

I fixed a sudo group problem and followed your delete/reinstall instructions. I couldn't go to bed with that lurking there. :-)

But I got it going. Thanks for breaking the log-jam!
