🚀 Let's Push Tesla to Provide Local API Access for Powerwall Data (EU Data Act)
Why this matters
The EU Data Act (Regulation 2023/2854), effective 12 September 2025, gives users the right to access data generated by their connected devices.
Tesla Powerwalls continuously generate operational and energy data, but currently, access is mostly through Tesla's cloud. Users should be able to access their data locally, for home automation, energy management, or personal analysis — without relying on external servers.
How You Can Help
We are calling on all Tesla Powerwall owners to take action:
- Send Tesla a request for local API access to your Powerwall data.
- Use the provided email template below (modify with your details).
- Share your experience here in this issue — when Tesla responds, what kind of access they offer, any workarounds, etc.
If enough users participate, we can pressure Tesla to implement a proper local API for all Powerwall owners.

Subject: Request for Local API Access for Powerwall Data under the EU Data Act
Dear Tesla Team,
I am writing as a user of a Tesla Powerwall, which continuously generates operational, performance, and energy data.
According to EU Regulation 2023/2854 (the "EU Data Act"), particularly Articles 4 ff., I am entitled as a user to access the data generated by my device. The Data Act requires manufacturers and providers of connected products to make this data available in a machine-readable, structured, and accessible format, allowing the user to analyze the data themselves or share it with third parties.
I explicitly request local and direct access (API or equivalent interface) to all operational and usage data generated by my Powerwall, without requiring any connection to cloud services or external servers.
Sincerely,
[First Name Last Name]

[Email Address]
[Tesla Powerwall Serial Number]
