cuda 13 (nvidia toolkit) support timeline query

First of all, thanks for an excellent software package to all of you whose contribution helps here!

I'm setting up a new machine with an nvidia GPU that I plan to use for development.

Will trying to get the new Nvidia cuda toolkit version 13 installed work with JAX? Or should I go grab 12.9 and set that up instead?

We're working on CUDA 13 support as we speak, and it may show up in nightly release shortly. However it will be around a month until it shows up in a tagged release of JAX.

If you're in a rush, just use CUDA 12 for now, and to be honest it's probably wise to give the entire CUDA ecosystem some time to settle unless you especially want to be on the bleeding edge.

CUDA 13 nightlies are now available:

uv pip install -U --pre jax jaxlib "jax-cuda13-plugin[with-cuda]" jax-cuda13-pjrt -i https://us-python.pkg.dev/ml-oss-artifacts-published/jax/simple/ --extra-index-url https://pypi.nvidia.com

They should show up as part of a tagged release on or shortly after September 15.
