How to override full-line history change colors

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

The default for change history colors in Notepad++ is a simple vertical line in the margin area. It appears 3P changes that to be the full width of the line, so changed lines have an orange background. This greatly reduces readability, as does the dark green background color of written-to-disk changed lines.

Is there a way to revert to the default Notepad++ display of change indicators only in the margin area, and not changing the background color of the entire line of text?
