Can't click 汉字 button

Update:
Although the 汉字 still won't turn dark when I click it, after re-installing Anki and re-installing the Chinese Support Redux add-on a few more times, the fields are now successfully autofilling when I enter Chinese characters into the Hanzi field. So, problem solved.

Describe the bug
I can't check the 汉字 button when I am adding a card. I click the 汉字 button, but it won't turn dark. As a result, when I type in Chinese characters into the Hanzi field, the other fields on the note don't autofill.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to Add Card.
2. Click on 汉字.

Specs (please complete the following information):

• OS: MacOS 11.6.1
• Anki Version 2.1.53
• Chinese Support Redux v0142

Additional context
I'm a first time user so it's possible there's something very obvious that I'm doing wrong. I have restarted Anki multiple times but the problem persists. I've also reinstalled Anki and the Chinese Support add-on, but the problem still persists.
