Selection of previous branch name

In the pop-up for creating a new branch (opened with New branch: n), I'd like to be able to select previous branch names so that I can create a similar one based on what I've used in the past.

Is this possible?

No, but you can easily copy that previous branch name to the clipboard beforehand (by selecting the branch and pressing ctrl-o), and then paste it in after opening the new branch prompt.
