Can't write/paste certain special characters using key combinations

I'm not sure if it's related to me using a non-US keyboard layout (AZERTY, both on host and the remote computer) but I can't seem to be able to write/paste certain special characters using key combinations such as AltGr+3 for '#' or AltGr+0 for '@', it instead just outputs numbers or the default non-combination character.

I have included a GIF of the issue below.

Browser: Firefox 133.0.3 on Windows 10

The paste functionality simply sends keyboard keys. So in the case of @ it would send Digit2 + Shift, based on keyboardMappings.ts which is a US key map.

We would need to add support for other keyboard maps to support other remote host keyboard layouts. As we can't detect the remote host keyboard layout, we should add a dropdown of the available keyboard layouts we support in that popover.

This is a good first ticket as that keyboard map is only used in the Paste Modal, so adding support for more languages shouldn't be too hard.

Things to note is that it's not limited to the paste popup.
If we type AltGR + another key on the physical keyboard, it doesn't work either.

If the keyboardMapping.ts is really only used for the paste modal, there might be another underlying issue
in the way it (doesn't) detects the altgr from the physical keyboard too.

I think overall having a dropdown to select the remote host keyboard layout is a good idea
but it would need to be put somewhere globally in the UI, and also fix the issue with the physical keyboard
and not only in the paste popup.

Thank you for the replies. As @timduru said above, there might be an issue if that keymap file is only being used for the paste feature as the layout issue also happens when simply typing on the keyboard.

I agree with the dropdown idea, maybe it could be interesting also having the option to choose the keyboard layout during the first time setup of the device?

yup I got my JetKVM today and found this issue encountering the same problem - I have a UK keyboard layout and there's no way for me to type a \ via the JetKVM - neither via the paste option, the on screen keyboard or typing directly.

Got mine today, too. German keyboard layout. Can't type special characters - in my case "|"

I ran into this problem on the Raspberry Pi 4. It seems Debian doesn't even recognize the JetKVM as a keyboard so you can't reconfigure the layout with dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration.

The Debian code for this detection is in /var/lib/dpkg/info/keyboard-configuration.config in the function keyboard_present.

Via real Keyboard strokes, via Virtual Keyboard or via "Past Text". Non is transmitting correct special chars.
The Maschine on the kvm is a Windows 11 in german setup.
and another Win11 german Keyboard is Browsing it.

zy is no issue.

But -=[];',./ from the virtual Keyboard brings: ß´ü+#öä,.-

If we could get the Mac British iso layout mapped and selectable that would be great!

just a quick hint for those British Mac users out there, albeit a horrible workaround:

Same problem - I spotted it when I couldn't get to the pipe ("|") symbol with a UK keyboard. The PC wired to the KVM is running Linux and configured for a UK keyboard, matching the keyboard that I had originally connected to it as I am based in the UK.

The fix is to change the PC keyboard to US.

My main machine is running Windows 10 with a UK keyboard, connected to the JetKVM web UI, and the JetKVM is wired to my Linux box and the Linux box is configured for a US keyboard. Now I can get the pipe symbol working.

The drawback is that I can't get the UK "£" symbol which is shift-3, I get a "#" instead, so it's not perfect, but at least my Linux shell is usable again.
