Date axix

I would need some advice or create an element to my diagram. I'm an amateur and I don't know how to program or English well. Sorry. We are researching the family trees of several families in history. I need a large scale date axis where I can assign individual events (archival and vital records) by date. Family trees (Ancestry; MyHerytage and the like) are not useful because they sort information by generations. The date range in my case should be from 1300 to 1900, and in addition to assigning events, it should be able to mark general political and social milestones. The axis should be vertical, beginning 1300 at the top. My idea is a rectangle to work within, with a date scale marked on both sides. Let the main scale be the year, the secondary the month. Can anyone advise me how to do this (step by step) or where to download it, if such already exists? Thanks for the help and sorry if my query is too layman. Richard
