I have searched the issue tracker for a feature request that matches the one I want to file, without success.
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
When creating complex diagrams with multiple elements across different pages, I find it difficult to create a seamless navigation experience. Currently, draw.io has some linking capabilities, but they are limited and don't provide the comprehensive internal navigation system needed for advanced presentations and interactive diagrams. This makes it challenging to create truly interactive and navigable documentation.
Describe the solution you'd like
I'd like draw.io to implement enhanced linking capabilities allowing users to:
Create links between specific elements on the same page (not just to other pages)
Link directly to specific elements on different pages (not just to the page itself)
Create links to elements in online diagrams hosted elsewhere
Have a visual indicator showing which elements contain links
Support a consistent navigation experience across desktop application and online versions
This would drastically improve presentation and mapping capabilities, allowing for the creation of interactive documentation with precise navigation between related components.
Describe alternatives you've considered
I'm aware that draw.io currently supports:
Basic linking to other pages within a document via "Edit Link" and selecting a page
Adding external URLs to elements
Custom links for toggling layers
However, these don't provide the comprehensive element-to-element linking across pages that would make truly interactive diagrams possible. I've considered using separate presentation software or breaking diagrams into smaller connected files, but these workarounds reduce the cohesiveness of the documentation.
Additional context
This feature would be particularly valuable for:
Software architecture documentation with drill-down capabilities
Process flows where users need to navigate between high-level and detailed views
Interactive tutorials and presentations
Knowledge base diagrams where related concepts need direct connections
The ideal implementation would allow for easy creation, editing and visualization of these links, perhaps with optional visual indicators (like small icons) on elements that contain links.
