Orchestra status?

This isn't really an issue, but not sure how else to communicate. I love the work you've done with Cronicle and was curious how we can get information on the upcoming Orchestra release? It's mentioned a few times in various issues, but wasn't sure if there was a better way to get an idea of progress? Very excited for what you've been working on considering how great this project is.

Hi there! I deeply apologize for lack of updates. Orchestra development continues. I'm still spending all my free time on it (nights and weekends). I'm still targeting 2025 for the first public release.

I am working on a marketing website, so I can show some screenshots and post updates. It's taking me longer than expected, but it's still in the works. I own the domain orchestra.dev which will become the home for the app. I will also start posting updates on Mastodon at @pixlcore@mastodon.social.

As far as features, I think I'm about 75% complete. The visual workflow editor is the last big thing. That's a huge build, but it's coming along nicely. Mock-up screenshot (dark mode):

@jhuckaby Would their be any feature where I can create a project or team and provide full access to only those workflows to the team. In this way, I can have work segregation done, and also project/team admin would be good so they become self-managed.

in this case, it can also be used for dev, staging and production for any critical workflow

@pradip-allwyn Yup, that's coming! It's called "User Groups" and you can assign users to any combination of groups, and those groups can have limited access to only certain event categories and/or server groups.

If I understand you correctly, is this a commercial project that will replace cronicle or will it be developed in parallel?

Developed in parallel for the foreseeable future. Cronicle may go into maintenance mode, but I'll keep fixing bugs and keeping up with vulnerabilities at the very least.

Any rough availability schedule of V2, @jhuckaby , would be helpful to us as we plan.
We are currently searching for alternative tools, so knowing the approximate availability will also help people like me make better plans.

I apologize for lack of updates. I don't have any more details beyond what is already in this discussion thread, however. I am targeting 2025 for release, but I don't know exactly when it'll happen.

It'll probably be late 2025 -- guessing around Thanksgiving or Christmas. I have about 6 months left of development, I believe.

I have just quit my day job (my last day is April 30), so going forward I can spend 100% of my time on Orchestra 😊

Oh, there will absolutely be a free tier! I am still figuring out licensing and all that, but Orchestra will be (some flavor of) open source, or source available.

I cannot use the MIT license, because it leaves me wide open to resellers, like what happened with Elastic. Basically, I want to prevent corporations from reselling my app as a hosted service. So I'm looking at alternative open licenses.

I really like how n8n.io does their licensing (basically a flavor of Fair-code). Also, Defold has a really nice way of modifying the Apache 2.0 license and making it their own. The Hacker News crowd LOVED that, so I am thinking seriously about doing something like that too.

I will also be offering paid commercial tiers, which are basically just adding a cloud hosted option, varying levels of support, SSO / OIDC / SAML2, SLA / uptime guarantee, and enterprise-y features like that.

Just wanted to add that Cronicle is great and we cannot wait to see Orchestra. We are a big University Network in Canada and we use Cronicle for all our scheduled update. :)
