Ligature font and wrong date of the document.

In my LaTeX document, the word bioengineering in the title is showing up with a combined 'oe' character, like a ligature. Why is this happening, and how can I stop LaTeX from doing that?
Apart from that, the date in my document is set to "September, 2000", how do I change it to the current date?

I wrote your title and compiled it and got the attached cover.
It is not LaTeX fault. Probably you copy&paste the title from elsewhere. Just write the title using the keyboard and it will certainly work.
Concerning the date, please read the instructions in the Repository main page and in the template itself.

I wrote again with the keyboard and the error persists. What other alternative can be done?

I suggest you download the latest version, ONLY CHANGE THE TITLE, compile and pray.
If it is ok, then the problem is is some change you made elsewhere in the template (e.g., in the definitions).
If it is not ok, I suggest you ask for the help of someone with a better knowledge on LaTeX.
