Helpful Hint For FreeBSD Pilgrims With UPX Woes #83

You're guide has helped me a bunch, many thanks!

Among FreeBSD, we know of UPX, we have a port for it. However, actually running the resulting UPX executables is a pain in the rear -- more often than not, results in an executable that simply does nothing.

But! As with all things FreeBSD, we often have standard / traditional / present-for-ages overlooked solutions:

gzexe

Although we have storage media sizes these days that makes sizes of binary executables a non-issue, it is still a neat exercise -- currently less than $0.10 per GB SSD. I'm yet to notice any gzexe -ed executable that is "slow" due to compression -- again, because these days even our low-end computer hardware is hella fast.
Hope this is helpful.
