Support multiple database connections?

I don't understand why the databases in the config section is an array, because allas just creates one listener connection with the configured connect setting. Based on the config format I would have expected it to create a separate listener connection for each database in the databases array.

I can't say what I was thinking at the time, as that decision was made over a decade ago. But yeah, I can see how that could be confusing. Doing #14 now is a bit of a non-starter because of backwards compatibility issues, though; you'd break my setup, which is pretty important to me.

Is this a real issue for you right now, or would a documentation adjustment do?

I'm using my fork so not a huge deal for me, but if this gets more popular (someone mentioned it on a pgbouncer issue recently) you might want to have this change. Maybe you could make an option to keep the old behavior you want?

I think the approach would be to change the configuration format in such a way that you can do new configuration in an obviously-incompatible way, but then the deprecated current syntax would still continue to work.

Or perhaps it would be a good idea to just tag a 0.9 release here, and start working towards version 1.0 with (off the top of my head):

1. Better password support (cleartext is not super cool)
2. Multiple database support
3. SSL support
4. Conversion to pgx
5. Hot reloading for configuration

without having to worry about backwards compatibility at all.

Yeah if I had time right now I would have also tried to add scram-sha-256 support, I might eventually try to work on it. Hot reloading config would be nice to have too.
