Barcode reading for document indexing/retreival

We would like to use this software for archiving paperwork.

The workflow we have is:

• paper document arrives in the post
• it is given a barcode
• the document is entered into a system and the barcode is scanned
• the document is then scanned into an archive
• original document is then destroyed

I have tried adding a barcode to a file and scanning it, but it is not being read. And neither is the number below the barcode.

Allowing the barcode to be read would be massively beneficial. It will guarantee we can link/find the document and the entry in our systems.
