🚀 JCB 6 Alpha Released – Now Building for Joomla 6

We’re excited to announce that JCB 6 is now available in Alpha 🎉

This is a big milestone for the project:

• ✅ Full support for Joomla 6 compiling (while still compiling for Joomla 3, 4, and 5).
• ✅ Around 70,000 new lines of code, with the model compiler engine completely migrated to Joomla’s modern architecture.
• ✅ Backward compatibility plugin for Joomla 6 will be auto-enabled during install, so rules load without hassle.
• ✅ Already tested extensively on our side, and fully functional on Joomla 5.4.6 as well.

👉 The current alpha release is tagged as 4.1.2, 5.1.2, and 6.1.2 (alpha 4).
👉 If we can get enough testers this week, we aim to move quickly into beta 1 (feature freeze, bug fixes only).

This release means you can now:

• Compile your JCB-built components for Joomla 6 today.
• Test your projects across Joomla 4, 5, and 6 with confidence.
• Help us ensure stability by reporting issues and sharing feedback.

We’re really looking forward to your input. The faster we can confirm stability, the faster we can push a stable beta and beyond.

Help Test JCB 6 Alpha (and compile for Joomla 6 from JCB 5)

We've reached a big milestone: JCB 6 is in Alpha and JCB 5 can compile for Joomla 6. We’d love your help to test and confirm stability so we can move to beta 1 soon.

Current alpha tags: 4.1.2, 5.1.2, 6.1.2 (alpha 4)

⚠️ These are nightly builds and not for production. If you want to test in a production-like environment, clone your production site, test there, and be ready to discard changes.

Option A — Test JCB 6 on Joomla 6 (Alpha/Beta)

1. Prepare a clean Joomla 6 (alpha/beta) site
   Fresh install or a safe clone of an existing site (not live).

2. Install JCB 6 (alpha)
   Use the JCB 6 nightly link above.
   Note: The Joomla 6 backward-compatibility plugin needed for the rule set will be auto-enabled by the installer. If rules don't load, just confirm that plugin is enabled.

3. Compile the Demo Component
   In JCB, compile the included demo component for Joomla 6.

4. Install the Demo Component
   Install the compiled package on your Joomla 6 site.

5. Exercise the Demo Component
   Walk through typical tasks to verify behavior:

   • Create, edit, save, and delete items
   • Check-in/out behavior
   • List views (filters, pagination, sorting)
   • Form validation (including custom rules)
   • Front-end views (if included)
   • ACL/permissions and toolbar actions

6. Report any issues you encounter (see “How to report” below)

Option B — Compile for Joomla 6 using JCB 5 on Joomla 5

1. Prepare a Joomla 5 site
   Fresh install or a safe clone (not live).

2. Install JCB 5 (alpha)
   Use the JCB 5 nightly link above.

3. Compile Your Component for Joomla 6
   In JCB 5, compile your component targeting Joomla 6.

4. Install on a Joomla 6 (alpha/beta) site
   Take the compiled Joomla 6 package and install it on your Joomla 6 test site.

5. Test your component thoroughly
   Use the same checklist as above: CRUD, lists, forms, validation, front-end, ACL, etc.

6. Report any issues you encounter (see next section)

How to report (what helps us fix fast)

When you find a bug, please include:

• JCB version & tag (e.g., 6.1.2 alpha 4 or 5.1.2 alpha 4)
• Joomla version (e.g., Joomla 6 beta X, Joomla 5.4.6)
• PHP version & web server
• Exact steps to reproduce (what you clicked/changed)
• Expected vs actual result
• Error messages/logs/screenshots if available

You can report by opening an issue on the repo where it belongs, or by posting in the discussion thread you’re already using for this test cycle.

• The Joomla 6 backward-compatibility plugin is enabled automatically by the JCB installer; if the rule set doesn’t load, verify it’s enabled.
