[BUG] System tray doesn't display under KDE nor GNOME

Describe the bug

The system tray does not display in GNOME (with https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/ installed) nor under KDE.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Install a fresh Fedora KDE in a VM, just to eliminate environmental issues.
2. Install https://github.com/joshuar/go-hass-agent/releases/download/v14.3.1/go-hass-agent-14.3.1-1.x86_64.rpm
3. Launch go-hass-agent using the "Start Go Hass Agent" menu entry

Expected behavior

Something is displayed in the system tray. (I'm given to understand from previous issues/discussions/etc. that this is supposed to be working...? But maybe it's just been removed?)

Logs

N/A; there's nothing interesting in the logs, even under log level trace. If you want to double-check I can provide them though. (Note that I only looked on my existing GNOME desktop; I didn't bother in the KDE VM since I assumed results would be the same.)

Desktop (please complete the following information):

I've reproduced under both Fedora Silverblue Linux 42 running GNOME, and Fedora KDE Workstation 43 running KDE.

Additional context

Both the KDE system and the GNOME system are running under Wayland.

I have the same issue on Ubuntu running Wayland, no tray icon. I verified that gnome-shell-extension-manager is installed and running.

I was able to reproduce under a KDE X11 session (on Fedora 43) as well.

I have tried every workaround I could throw at it, and cannot get the icon or the UI to come up at all. Kinda dead in the water without it, sadly.

Hey there, thanks for reporting this issue.

The agent switched UI toolkits with v14 and there no longer is a tray icon displayed. I didn't feel like the tray icon added any value so I've not reimplemented it (and doing so would likely require using CGO, and removing CGO was an explicit win from switching the UI to a web based one).

All functionality, including initial set-up should be achievable without the tray icon. The intention is to expand the web UI to make it more useful in the future.

If there is some functionality missing from the web UI, certainly we can look into implementing it! If there is mention of the tray icon in the docs, thats a bug and those references need to be removed!
