Possibility to add custom meta data/properties?

Hi folks,

is there the possibility in juicefs to add custom meta data. E.g. property "department" with the department code a file belongs to?

We prefer to keep file attributes minimal, partly because adding more metadata can significantly increase overhead in large-scale file systems, and it can also impact the performance of metadata operations.
If it’s just to distinguish departments, having different group owners should be sufficient. Of course you can use extended attributes for other custom attributes.

So I assume I can use the standard xattr commands

setfattr --name=user.checksum --value="3baf9ebce4c664ca8d9e5f6314fb47fb" file.txt

Is this possible? And if yes is this in any case limited or can it be used without limitations?

Yes — you can use xattr to add whatever custom attributes you need.
