Jupyternaut needs a carefully curated set of tools to provide effective assistance across the JupyterLab environment. While several tool packages exist with overlapping functionality, we need to identify the most valuable tools and create a cohesive toolkit that maximizes Jupyternaut's utility without overwhelming users or degrading performance.
Current Available Packages:
- https://github.com/jupyter-ai-contrib/jupyter-ai-tools - Git, system commands, and basic notebook functions
- https://github.com/jupyter-ai-contrib/jupyterlab-commands-toolkit - JupyterLab frontend commands (tabs, notebooks, UI interactions)
Goals
- Identify essential tool categories for effective JupyterLab assistance
- Evaluate existing tools across different packages
- Create a curated toolkit that balances functionality with performance
- Improve existing tools to be more robust with built-in self-validation and error handling
