Description
Each student should create a profile similar to chompy.md in the profiles directory.
For now, this is an exercise in building hands-on familiarity with GitHub. As I want you to do something meaningful as you practice, I do plan to have the teams use this to create a jupyter cal poly website down the road.
Details
- Create a GitHub account
- Create your profile (using the built in GitHub editor is fine) using Markdown as the markup language
- Create a pull request in GitHub asking me to add your profile to the repository
Getting help
Here are your options:
- Option 1: Open a new issue here with your question. Advantages: others on the team can help answer the questions; I will respond much quicker here than email.
- Option 2: Ask me a question in Slack.
- Option 3: Send me an email with the question or requesting a time for a web chat.
I encourage Option 1 because questions are an excellent learning tool for everyone. Asking your questions here will allow me and others to easily link to GitHub resources, screenshots, etc. that will be helpful.
General tips on questions
I've used these 3 simple tips with Google Summer of Code and Google Code In students that I have mentored:
- Try Google or Stack Overflow to search for guidance.
- Read the docs 😄 and double check your steps.
- If stuck on something for 30 minutes and you have made a reasonable effort to solve, ask the question. Time is valuable, and many times it's a detail that isn't clear or well documented. So ask away.
