Code cells and comments are checked despite settings

Thanks to the developer for the effort of bringing a spell checker to Jupyter Notebooks. I am using Jupyter Lab 4.4.5 and the latest version of spellchecker. Despite disabling the checking of comments, they are still being marked as containing spelling errors. Furthermore, disabling the plug in from the plug-in manager does not seem to work. I saw that there was an identical bug reported over a year ago. Has there been any solution to the problem? For now, I uninstalled the plugin since it is super distracting seeing all the superfluous markup with a code cell.
