Spotify "setting thumbnail"

I was just curious if the "setting thumbnail" step was a required step or not. And if it does what I think it does, ie: literally just setting the image for the audio, can I remove that step in any way shape or form? I do not care about the picture (again if that's what this step does) for most audios

I realize I completely missed the discussion page that was already made. I apologize if I was supposed to comment my question on that instead of creating my own discussion.
