Using -t output GPS strings to -u targets (or: how do I use groups!?)

I've got two inputs:

1. RTL-SDR -d:0
2. a GPS -t gpsd localhost 2947

I have several outputs:

1. -X to ais catcher.org
2. -u to marinetraffic
3. -u to aishub
4. -u localhost port X for local netcat monitoring
5. -N 8100 share_loc on for local web interface

The problem is with the GPS active, all destinations are getting a GPS string every second. I don't want to feed ais destinations with GPS, i just want GPS to show my local station on the local web interface. I've tried to use GROUPS_ON but the documentation is not great and I can't seem to add a group to a -t resource. How can I restrict the GPS data so it only goes to the local web instance?

For your outputs 2-5 you can add filter on gps off. For example:

 AIS-catcher -u 127.0.0.1 5012 filter on gps off -v

This will switch on a filter for the particular output and remove any GPS data. -X already filters out GPS so nothing required there. Note that this filter needs to be defined per output stream.

ps GROUPS_IN should work as well but perhaps it is not properly extended to GPS stream, will double check

Another question related to this: I moved ais-catcher into a docker container on another Raspberry Pi. Using the same setup, with the same command line switches and the same version. The docker logs are now filling up with the GPS output string. I'm confused as to why this is or how to turn it off? Any thoughts?

Do you also see NMEA? I would try no output (-q) or add filter on gps off after the -o 2 (for example).

But if that is not it, please provide a bit more detail on what you see.

Yes, I am seeing:

[NMEA input #1-0] received: 1 msgs, total: 1 msgs, rate: 0.0165772 msg/s

And thanks for the clue, I managed to use -o 0 to remove the GPS sentences from the logs.

Also, now that I'm think about it, since I will be using this as a roaming station on my boat and I've already set -O <My MMSI> and am sending !AIVDO messages, my boat and station are already in the same place -- so I likely don't even need to do the -t to get GPS info for the map!

No indeed, the map will back your location out from the AIS messages from the specified MMSI.
