Support for image volume source (as soon as its there) as strategy

As soon as https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/storage/volumes/#image is available (almost beta, see kubernetes/enhancements#4639), it would be super great if this could be used to mount tzdata.

Hi Daniel, definitely! I've been following the KEP since the beginning.
But unfortunately this is technically not possible because Image Volumes does not support subPath so you can only mount the image as entire directory, but not a specific file. Due to this limitation, its impossible mount /etc/localtime from Image Volumes. I discovered this few weeks ago, after I finished writing all the code and tried it for the first time.

Without this limitation - it will be the perfect solution. The code is ready and I hope in the future it will be possible to use subPath in Image Volumes.

wouldn't it still be super useful to have a central image with just the zoneinfo (at root) and mount that to /usr/share/zoneinfo/ and point with env.TZ to that zone?

Yea I agree, Unfortunately, I can't find where I saved the rest, I had almost everything ready, including tests and documentation...
I did find some of the injection code, ill try to find time to complete the work and have it released.
