Graph won't display (constant updating circle) when HA Companion app Location Services set to Never or when no Wi-fi

Found what I believe is a BUG in mini-graph card. I'm running latest version of HAOS and mini-graph-card module.

Problem: graphs never display (constant spinning circle) on dashboards ONLY when HA Companion App (running on 4 different iPads) has Wi-Fi- disabled (using Ethernet via USB-C) or when HA Companion App Location Services set to Never.

Problem goes away and graphs work correctly as soon as I enable HA App location service and Wi-Fi. Problem easily repeatable by just disabling Wi-Fi. I have 4 iPads that have been running HA Companion App just fine with mini-graph-card for many months but I was always using Wi-fi. I just switched some of my iPads to Ethernet (via usb-c port), with Wi-fi disabled and problem with mini-graphic displaying has started. Mini-graph cards display fine on same iPads using web browser--just not via HA Companion app when wi-fi is disabled.

Why would mini-graph card even care about wi-fi being enabled on the HA Companion App?

You seem to have issues with accessing your server, how this could be a bug in a custom card?

I agree with the strange situation. Literally works perfectly when connected via wifi on 5 different iPads, 2 laptops, 2 desktops. Whenever Wifi and HA Companion App Location services are disabled, ONLY the mini-graph card doesn’t work. Every other module in dashboards, HA, works just fine and I have dozens of dashboards and maybe a hundred different HACS modules running just fine. I would also note that sometime about a month ago, the HA Companion Apps on all my iPads was updated to latest version, and upon first reconnect with the HA server, they ask about “trusted” connection and which Wifi to use for location services to a “more secure connection”. If you skip this step, mini-graph doesn’t work (i.e. location services disabled for HA Companiion App). So the problem may have just started on one of the latest HA Compansion App versions that is causing this conflict.

Do you have any plugins like duckdns etc?
Also, have you purged a frontend cache on Companion app? (Just in case).

No duckpins or any custom DNS. I uninstalled and re-installed HA Comp App, deleted and re-created the HA server connection, also cleared front-end cache on the client — still same problem. The problem is easily recreated by just disabling Wi-fi (which also disables HA client’s Location sensing which I believe is the real problem. Again, no idea why mini-graph-card would even care about Location censoring (disabled when wifi is off) but literally the only HA module/add-on/dashboard card that is effected is mini-graph-card. I have literally hundreds of other cards/etc that don’t care about wifi or location sensing turned on. I suspect something changed (client updated) in the HA Companion App in past 1-2 months. Ever since the last HA client update, the HA client now asks for location services to be enabled — though dashboard cards shouldn’t care about location service, mini-graph is definitely effected on mobile devices (i.e. desktop HA clients don’t ask/have location service). I have to leave wifi and location services enabled in order for mini-graph to work (negating my ability to use Ethernet for my 4 iPads).

Can you double check if stock cards like history-graph a logbook still work fine on problematic devices?

Also, a few days ago I noticed a strange thing. Usually I almost never use a Companion app.
For testing some HA frontend PR, I needed to connect with an iOS companion app to a test version of HA (in devcontainer).
So, I opened the App, disconnected from server - then again started to reconnect.
After selection a required HA instance, the setup wizard asked me something about “do I need a secure connection or not”; not exactly the same phrase, but it was something about trustworthy, security etc. And there was a remark - “if you choose this type of connection, you will not be able to track a location”.
No idea, how these things are connected.
And I do not recall this step “select secure connection” present earlier. May be it was added recently? May be it really breaks things?

Intersting…. History graph doesn’t work — stuck on updating similar to what I’m seeing with mini-graph. Apex charts works fine with wifi/location services disabled.

If the stock history graph does not work - suggest to create an issue in ha frontend.
Please post a link to this issue here. Let’s keep this issue open until that frontend issue is resolved in any way.
