Undocumented (?) wildcard '_'

I was wondering whether treatment of _ as a wildcard (apparently equaliavalent to ? ?) is intentional and documented anywhere?
This may be causing unintended results, e.g. EECA-NZ/TIMES-NZ-Model-Files#67

Two questions:

• Will this (_ and [_]) also work in Browse and Item details? At some point, I remember, there was a recommendation to verify patterns containing wildcards there.
• Would enclosing , in square brackets work to distinguish between a description containing a comma and a list of descriptions in PSet_PD and CSet_CD fields?

To my understanding, the underscore wildcard (matching a single character) complies with the SQL-92 standard, which was adopted also in Jet 4.0 for Access 2000. I guess that explains why it was adopted also in VEDA. That standard has been used also at least in the MS SQL Server and in Oracle database queries, and so I assume it has been a pretty widely used SQL standard. I am happy that it is still supported under VEDA.
