Copilot Telemetry #884

@BillScherer Wow that's quite a bum deal, especially if you're paying for copilot. You're sending them all the queries anyway, what more do they need to know? Also, gptel supports only copilot chat, not copilot tab-completions. Do the same terms still apply? |

@karthink Agreed. I don't know what else they need. Our instructions for setting up VSCode correctly indicate to enable All telemetry. I don't know why anyone or any company would do this for a product/service they are paying for. Anyway, I can try to get a network capture to get an idea of what the telemetry is, but it is almost certainly encrypted with TLS, and would be of no use. |

Converting to a discussion since there is no action required in gptel right now. |

I have now switched to a local LLM (ollama, qwen2.5-coder:14b), and that's my work-around. |

Hi @BillScherer , As an organization owner I have configured similar workflow, we also remove inactive users if they inactive for > 30 days. I am attaching a screenshot on what we use gh api \
-H "Accept: application/vnd.github+json" \
-H "X-GitHub-Api-Version: 2022-11-28" \

My company requires telemetry enabled for github copilot for license maintenance. If you don't use it, you lose it. gptel is, unsurprisingly, not sending any telemetry, such as VSCode or IntelliJ would, and thus my license gets revoked. It would be great if there was an option to enable sufficient telemetry. Thanks for considering.
