Why does the audio get fetched multiple times?

I have two tabs with a list of tracks in each tab panel. When a tab is inactive, its panel has display: none, so it is still mounted. However, every time I click a tab, all the audio is refetched and I can't figure out why.

I realize this might not be a wavesurfer-specific question. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding how the browser caches data. Any ideas?
