R(ead) vs. RM(ine) inconsistency in Sysop mode

In sysop mode:
When attempting to read a new personal message by message number (r )
it results in a "no found" error. RM (read mine) will work--but only if
that message has not be read. Then reading that message by message number works.

When in sysop mode, something in the message list isn't getting loaded properly.
The RM command apparently forces it to update.

And the RM command should work whether my messages have been read or not.
