Premis metadata location

Hi,

this is definitely not a bug preventing operation of Commons-ip. I´ve noticed a change in premis.xml file handling. When premis.xml or premis metadata type file is attached to a SIP, it´s located to sip_name/metadata/descriptive. In one of previous versions, it might be 2.8.? premis file was copied also to sip_name/representations/rep1/metadata/preservation.

Is there a chance to put premis metadata to sip_name/metadata/other or /preservation when SIP is created? It might be useful when bunch of validations is done before SIP is created.

You can control where premis.xml (or any premis metadata) is placed in the SIP by choosing the appropriate method when building the SIP with commons-ip. If you use sip.addPreservationMetadata(), the file goes to sip_name/metadata/preservation. If you use sip.addDescriptiveMetadata(), it goes to sip_name/metadata/descriptive, and with sip.addOtherMetadata(), it goes to sip_name/metadata/other. At the representation level, you can use representation.addPreservationMetadata() to place it in sip_name/representations/repX/metadata/preservation see example code.

There’s no global config to automatically change this behavior—the placement is determined by which method you call in your SIP-building code details. So, if you want premis.xml in /metadata/other or /preservation, just use the corresponding method when adding it.
