Kmesh community is now calling for project submissions for the upcoming LFX program in the first quarter of 2026.

The Kmesh community is inviting project proposals for the LFX (Linux Foundation Mentorship) program that will be launched in the first quarter of 2025. The LFX program provides a structured mentorship opportunity for open-source projects to onboard new contributors and drive community engagement.

Kmesh supports multi-clusters

• Description: Kmesh, as a high-performance service mesh data plane, is now only supported for use in a single cluster. However, now that multi-cluster support for istiod has been realized, we are able to move forward with the multi-cluster adaptation of Kmesh to support the use of Kmesh in multi-cluster environments. Adaptation to the current multi-cluster production environment with LLM and large data.

Optimize long connection load balance and support more load balance algorithm

• Description: Kmesh employs eBPF for load balancing. However, at present it only supports short-lived connections and offers a limited range of load balancing algorithms. Consequently, we aim to support a broader range of load balancing capabilities.
• Expected Outcome:
  • 1. Load balancing with load-dependent connections via eBPF.
  • 2. Support as many load balancing algorithms as possible

Kmesh Dashboard for Simplified Traffic Management and Configuration

• Description:
  Kmesh provides powerful traffic management through eBPF orchestration, dual operating modes, and flexible waypoint usage. However, these advanced capabilities introduce a steep learning curve for new users.
  This project aims to design and implement a Kmesh Dashboard that exposes essential configuration and operational fields through an intuitive user interface. The dashboard will allow users to easily configure common traffic management scenarios, understand current Kmesh operating modes, monitor waypoint usage, and observe traffic behavior without deep prior knowledge of Kmesh internals.

• Expected Outcome:

  • A user-friendly web-based dashboard for Kmesh
  • Simplified configuration of key Kmesh features such as dual mode, waypoint enablement, and traffic policies
  • Visual representation of traffic flow, eBPF orchestration status, and observability metrics
  • Improved onboarding experience and reduced usage threshold for Kmesh adoption
  • Documentation describing dashboard architecture and integration with Kmesh-daemon

• Recommended Skills:

  • Kubernetes and service mesh fundamentals
  • Familiarity with eBPF concepts (basic understanding is sufficient)
  • Backend development (Go preferred)
  • Frontend development (React, Vue, or similar frameworks)
  • REST/gRPC APIs and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana experience is a plus)
