Colony Mind CYCLE 5 - Quick Summary

What Changed?

Colony Mind now has 4 major new features that make it feel like a living world:

1. Day/Night Cycle (180 seconds)

  • Sky darkens at night, brightens during day
  • Moon appears during nighttime
  • Weather indicator shows: "☀️ Day | Clear" or "🌙 Night | Storm"
  • Smooth dawn/dusk transitions

2. Living Art / Ambience Mode

  • Press A key to toggle
  • UI fades to near-invisible (0.1-0.2 opacity)
  • Audio volume increases 20%
  • Perfect for meditation or screensaver use
  • Press any key to exit

3. Emergent Narrative Events

These are NOT scripted stories - they're reactive labels to real simulation events:

  • "The Queen Hungers" - When queen hasn't been fed for 45+ seconds (nurses speed up)
  • "Catastrophe Strikes" - When 10+ ants die within 30 seconds
  • "Uncharted Depths" - When colony digs to new depth record
  • "A Lost Ant Returns" - When isolated ant rejoins colony (joy particles!)
  • "[Role] Revolution" - When 20+ ants share the same role (dominance!)

4. Enhanced Weather Integration

  • Day/night brightness blends with weather colors
  • Moon only visible during clear nights
  • Weather feels more dynamic and realistic

New Keyboard Shortcut

  • A = Toggle Ambience Mode (living art display)

Implementation Stats

  • Lines Added: ~520 (13% growth)
  • Performance Impact: Minimal (no new O(n²) operations)
  • Bugs Fixed: 1 syntax error in commented code
  • Features Deferred: Advanced caste system (needs more design)

How to Test

  1. Day/Night: Just watch - it cycles automatically every 180 seconds
  2. Ambience Mode: Press A and enjoy the view
  3. Queen Hungers: Don't place food for 45 seconds
  4. Catastrophe: Let cold weather or floods kill many ants
  5. Lost Ant: Watch for isolated ants far from colony
