Getting it to work on an M series Mac #99

This issue is for discussing getting handWavey to work on an M series Mac.

  • When I started writing handWavey, the Linux support for the LeapMotion controller was stuck at 2.3.1 of the Leap Motion SDK while Windows, and much later, Mac kept rolling on.
  • 2.3.1 came several years before the M series Macs, so doesn't support it.
  • Version 5(?) dropped the APIs that 2.3.1 provides, which is what handWavey uses.
  • Linux has finally got support again (6.2.0).
    • It looks like they might have returned to a semi-usable installation method for non-ubuntu users. So that's promising.
    • Since the APIs that handWavey relies on were removed at least one major version ago, it's unlikely that 6.2.0 is going to work without a fair bit of work. I need to do it, but it shouldn't be understated as to how much work it is.
    • I can't tell from the website whether 6.2.0 will work with the Leap Motion 1, which is what I have.

Probably I'm going to have to write new support for 6.2.0 and beyond.

If someone knows differently, please add a comment below.
