Cycling through windows of same app-id possible?

I'm trying to replicate my keybindings from Fvwm, where I use shortcuts for "cycle or execute" functionality for my most used applications. For example, I have a shortcut to cycle through all terminal windows or launch a new terminal if no terminal window is present. I've tried the following:

			<action name="Raise"/>
			<action name="Focus"/>
		</then>
		<none>
			<action name="Execute" command="alacritty"/>
		</none>

</keybind>

It works to switch focus between two terminal windows, but not cycle through all terminal windows if there are more than two. Is such a behaviour possible without using external tools?

I haven't used that <none> element for a long time - if ever 😄
Looking at the man page, it appears that it should work they way you expect it to.
Which version are you use? We have done some recent refactoring on the master branch, so possible it's broken as a result of that.

@orfeasxyz Do you know? Did you ever user this functionality?

I'm using 0.9.1. However, I think ForEach/none is actually working as intended, but not what I need (see comment below).

ForEach iterates over all windows and performs an action on the first one matching the predicate. In case no match is found then the <none> action is executed. That works for toggling between 2 windows but cycling between 3 or more is another problem. Currently window cycling can only filter based on workspaces but not app-id's. I could open an issue and work on this if people are interested.

Edit: #3067 seems like a similar problem, I think we could provide a generic solution by having more filter options for the window switcher.

I think a filter option for NextWindow would be great. However, it would only solve half of my use case, as I'm looking for a combination of ForEach/none and filtered NextWindow. The intended algorithm for my keybinding is:

if window with app_id = "x" exists
	focus next window with app_id = "x"
else
	execute "y"

I tested this keybind configuration to test if this is somewhat possible with what we already have:

the problem I've noticed is that once the window switcher pops up, subsequent presses of the same keybind doesn't work, which to me seems like a bug. Assuming that it worked and we also had NextWindow filters, would it solve your problem?
