SQL error when trying to reset password

I'm trying to reset the password but my email field in database isn't named "email" and because of that I get an SQL error.
I was told to add this function in my model in order to override the email field

  public function getEmailForPasswordReset()
   {
       // Return the correct field value here
       return $this->myField;
   }

But didn't work. I still get the same error.
