Set light segment visibility as a group

It would be convenient if there was a toggle in the integration to hide segment entities on lights.

If i only want to control them as a group I currently have to go into each one and set its visibility.

Just echoing this. I installed this to try as an alternative to the GoveeLife integration, but suddenly noticed my house has 30+ lights on which seems weird, especially since the string itself is off.

Each segment as a separate light entity may be the easiest way to adjust each segment manually if that's what you want to do, but it seems like a hacky way to enable what I imagine is a very rare need. As OP suggested, would be nice to have a toggle in the integration to disable these individual light entities.

This feature already exists! You can toggle segment entity visibility via:

Settings → Devices & Services → Govee → Configure → "Enable segment entities"

When disabled and the integration is reloaded, all segment entities are removed via Home Assistant's orphan entity cleanup. When re-enabled, they are recreated.

This toggle has been available since the segment feature was introduced. Closing as already implemented.

Thanks for pointing out this config option!

However I will note it does appear that with this toggled no devices have segments. I could see cases where both states are desired but on different devices. Say the spotlights you don’t want to address segments but the strip lights you do.

Anyway, the existing solution works well enough for me at the moment.

Let me see if I can find a way to group them. The API doesn't allow for it to be set all at once, so it may not be possible but I'll look into a grouped segment option.

I've implemented a grouped segment control feature for Issue #15! 🎨

What's New

You can now choose how to control RGBIC segments in Settings → Devices & Services → Govee → Configure:

• Grouped Segments (new) — Single light entity controlling all segments together
• Individual Segments (default) — Separate control for each segment (original behavior)
• Disabled — Hide all segment entities

How It Works

When you select Grouped Segments mode, a new light entity appears (e.g., "Living Room Strips Segments") that:

• Controls ALL segments with a single color/brightness change
• Syncs effects across the entire strip
• Works great for synchronized lighting effects
• Uses the same color/brightness controls as the main light

When you switch between modes, old entities are automatically removed via Home Assistant's orphan cleanup.

Backward Compatible

✅ Existing configurations default to Individual Segments (your current setup)
✅ Old settings are automatically migrated
✅ No breaking changes

Testing & Feedback

The implementation includes:

• Full test coverage for grouped segment control
• Race condition prevention (same logic as individual segments)
• Optimistic state persistence across Home Assistant restarts
• Proper orphan cleanup when switching modes

I'd love your feedback:

• Does the grouped segment control work as expected?
• Are there any issues with the new segment mode selector?
• Would you prefer different default behavior?

Very quick response, thanks. One question: what benefit does the grouped mode provide? It seems like it's identical to the main light.

Also, a couple notes:

1. When I updated, even though my segments "off" setting was correctly migrated to "disabled", all my segments reappeared. I switched to grouped and saved it, then back to disabled, and then my segments disappeared again.
2. The setting is called "segment_mode". This snake_case doesn't match the other settings and doesn't give much clue about what it does.
3. Overall, your comment and the fix itself feel like AI slop. I'm certainly appreciative of the quick turnaround, but unless I'm missing something it seems like the problem was sorta misinterpreted and the solution wasn't needed. I only have one govee string so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see how this could fix the issue of changing the setting for each string.

I have to agree with @yorb, I don’t understand how the grouped mode differs from the disabled mode.

And I think the new feature still misses what would be the most useful feature: giving this type of control at the per-device level rather than globally.

Again, my use case still falls naturally into the “disabled” setting so I am only wishing for a feature others may enjoy.

But I don’t think this latest iteration hits the mark.

I'm still working on getting this all flushed out, HA is a little touchy with the settings page and per device flows. almost there though. i don't have a test enviornment (may be a good idea hah) so I have to release to try it in my setup.
