Those using macOS / Darwin: let us know if forcing LCC= cc for macOS / Darwin creates any problems for you.

The cc command should invoke the proper C compiler and that we do not have to specify clang (or in the case of very old PowerPC systems running old macOS, do not have to specify gcc).

Does this change creat new problems for macOS / Darwin systems? If so, what are they?
