Is it possible to consider, for a next version, to use Rust Stable?

This is the kind of crate that is desired once a project reaches maturity and wants the squeeze a little bit more of performance... hence, to work in stable rust is needed.

It's absolutely impossible to use rust stable for a crate like this if one wants performance. There are far too many features that require rust nightly, and probably will for a long time. Instead, it fixes the version of the rust toolchain it uses.

What might be possible is for someone with a lot of diligence to go through and feature-gate (use cargo features) the parts that require rust nightly. As part of that, they'd need to also find a way to avoid the need to use rust intrinsics for likely and unlikely code paths.
