Is there any way to unify tsc and tss?

Say, preserve only the command tss, and when tss is typed, vimtex will automatically detect whether it's going to toggle a command or an environment.

There is currently no easy way to do this, no. It's not impossible for me to add it. I think one idea would be to add a <plug>-mapping that you could map in your own config (e.g. in your personal ftplugin/tex.vim) that would do a search for a surrounding environment and a surrounding command and then toggle whichever of these are closest to the cursor by some metric.

My bad. I'm fixing that now. I'll redub the new mapping to <plug>(vimtex-cmd-toggle-star-agn). I don't quite like the name, but it was the best I could come up with right now and it fixes the issue.
