What is the Problem?
Figures should have the possibility to insert alt-text. This may not be relevant for PDF but for JATS-XML.
What is the benefit of solving the problem?
This allows JATS-XML later to be converted to proper HTML. Also editors would have the chance to write an extensive description of the figure (which is done in some fields), which is then also embedded in the JATS-XML/HTML.
How will we know when the problem has been solved?
First, by having an input field for the alt-text in the editor for figures. And by exporting JATS-XML with the respective data.
Documents and Resources
If you look into this JATS-XML, you see for the figure with the id figure-panel-f63391edcbe04803a461bc8456de8195, that it has some alt-text (in german) that is very extensive and way longer than the title or the description.
Tasks / Definition of Done
- Display an alt-text field when editing a figure
- Export the data into JATS-XML (when available)
